5 Great Qualities to Look for in a Travel Backpack

Whether you’re trekking through the outback, climbing Mount Everest or simply going for a few days camping, it is absolutely essential that you get the right backpack. There are a huge variety of backpacks on offer, all suitable for different occasions.

When it comes to choosing the right backpack there is no universal ‘ideal’, as it is open to personal choice. Everybody is a different size, shape, and has different preferences depending on their trip. However, there are 5 great qualities to look for when choosing a travel backpack; this list will help you find the perfect pack for you.

1) Lightweight

The weight of the bag itself is one of the first and most important things to take into consideration. With everything that you need for your excursion, your backpack will probably already be quite heavy, so you don’t want the bag itself to add to the weight.

Looking for a bag that is as lightweight as possible, but still made out of a sturdy and strong material, is the best option. The lighter the bag, the lighter the load that you have to bear. You would be surprised at the difference this makes, particularly if you are traveling for an extended amount of time.

2) Appropriate Size

Getting a backpack that is too big can cause issues.

Getting a backpack that is too big can cause issues.

Ensuring that your backpack is the right size is another very important factor to remember when choosing a backpack. Of course, you need to make sure that it is big enough to carry everything you need, but at the same time, there’s no point carrying around something that is too big.

The backpack size you are looking for will really depend on the length of your trip. It is very important that you choose a backpack appropriate in size for your journey. This will ensure that you can both fit everything in and that you aren’t carrying round extra bag weight for no reason.

3) Durability

Whether you’re hiking through the rain forest or in the great outback, you need to make sure you choose a backpack that is durable. Looking for a pack that has waterproof material is very important as it can protect the contents as well as food you may be carrying.

You also want to make sure that your bag will last throughout your entire journey and be able to endure the weather, whatever that may be. Choosing a backpack made out of durable material is therefore essential if you want a backpack you can rely on.

4) Fit and Comfort

You need to get durable bags that fit you well.

You need to get durable bags that fit you well.

The best travel backpack you can get is one that fits your back well and is comfortable. Trying on backpacks to see where they sit on your body is a great idea, and don’t forget that you can always adjust the straps to fit you more snugly if needed.

It’s also very important to choose a backpack that has a sturdily fitting strap around the waist for extra support. Although it might not seem important, you will really appreciate the support as you spend hours walking with a heavy-laden pack.

5) Security

Finally, another great quality to look for in the perfect travel backpack is security. This is especially important if you will be sleeping outdoors, as you don’t want any bugs or animals to get into your bag and destroy your possessions or eat all of your food.

Choosing a bag that has zippers is a good idea, as it completely seals the pocket or area in the bag. Buttons or toggles still allow space where things could get in, or even fall out. You don’t want to find yourself missing half your food supply because it fell out on the way up.

Conclusion

Finding the right backpack for you is very important, no matter what you have planned for your trip. But if you remember these 5 great qualities you are sure to find the ideal travel backpack for you with the minimum of fuss. See our extensive range of backpacks here.

5 Must Have Travel Accessories for Your Next Adventure Holiday

Whether it’s camping, hiking, extreme sports or a family trip, an adventure holiday can be an amazing experience and something you remember for the rest of your life. But whilst going on an adventure is wonderful it does sometimes mean that you need to be ready for anything. This is part of the fun of an adventure, but when unexpected situations arise, you want to be sure you’re prepared for them.

This article shall look at five brilliant travel accessories to give you the peace of mind that regardless of what your adventure throws at you, you will be ready for it.

1) Hydration Pack

Caribee Quencher Backpack

Caribee Quencher Backpack

When off an adventure, it is important to have a source of water throughout the day, to keep you hydrated and refreshed. But carrying around a bottle of water can be quite inconvenient and impractical and if you’re doing something like rock climbing, carrying a bottle of water is impossible.

As such, most people begrudgingly don a backpack so they can carry around enough water to keep you hydrated through the day. This is a solution to the issue but it does mean you have a cumbersome and awkward backpack to carry around all day. Not only this, but any time you want a drink you have to stop and open up your backpack to get out a bottle; it’s just generally a faff.

Instead of being stuck with opening and closing a backpack all day, a great idea is to invest in a hydration pack. A hydration pack is worn like a backpack but is not quite as cumbersome and has a tube to feed water directly to your mouth, handily stored in a shoulder strap when not in use, all of which makes keeping hydrated an easy, hands-free convenience.

2) Torch

You never know what your trip will entail and adventure may strike in the middle of the night. Sometimes an adventure is best had under the stars, or maybe there will be times when the sun disappears before your day finishes. When night falls, it is important to be able to see what you’re doing, in terms of making things practical and possible as well as making sure you can stay safe. Indeed while camping at any time, a light source is a necessity. As such, it is vital to have a good torch.

The type of torch you choose depends upon your type of adventure, but a good, reliable and powerful torch is a must have for any individual. If you can get a head torch then even better, as it allows you to see in the dark without having to sacrifice the use of a hand.

3) Document Case

As much as you might like to be rid of some of papers and documents while on an adventure, it is often necessary to take some things along. For example, a passport is a necessary when going anywhere abroad, having some emergency money is a good idea and often maps are a must. The only issue with this documentation is that it isn’t the hardiest, so as soon as it starts to rain you want to be sure it’s all safely covered.

This is where a good waterproof document case comes in handy, keeping your documents together and safe from damage from water, wind and other threats from the elements.

4) Rain Poncho

Caribee Rain Poncho

Unless your adventure is particularly tropical, when outdoors there is often a risk of rain. Although it won’t kill you, getting drenched in the rain can really put a dampener on the fun of an adventure and it is good to have something to keep the water off so you don’t end up wet and miserable. However, carrying around a large rain-coat can be quite a burden and take up room in your backpack.

Rain ponchos are fun!

Therefore, a rain poncho is a great idea. Due to it being a very thin coat, it is easily folded up and stored away, needing very little space. It’s even possible to carry around a poncho in your pocket. This saves you from having to have a backpack or having to contend with a coat all day, while giving you the peace of mind that if the rain suddenly starts to pour, you’ve got a handy means to keep you dry.

5) Bum Bag

Caribee Bum Bag

It is great to have a backpack on your adventure to carry the necessary things you need for your adventure, but they can be quite burdensome and impractical. Sometimes an adventure is best when you’re not weighed down with too much. When this is the case, a backpack might seem unnecessary, as there will be a lot of unused space and what you are carrying will bounce about in your bag.

A bum bag provides a brilliant and handy alternative to a backpack; it enables you to carry around the necessities, keeping your hands free, while allowing you to stay unburdened, free and flexible on your adventure. Not only this, but as it is situated on your waist and therefore very easy to access; you don’t have to stop to take off and open a backpack; you just need to reach down and open a zip.

Conclusion

Whatever your adventure, being organised is a must. The five accessories described here will really help you be prepared for anything, allowing you to really make the most of your adventure.

It’s Time to Get Back to School and I can’t wait!

OK, it’s the time we all love, or hate the most! Yes, I am talking about going back to school. I’ve tried to keep it from my mind but I know I can no longer do that. There’s hardly anytime left, so I decided to shop for things I will need and pack up.

The first thing that hit my mind was that I needed a bag, last years one was very tired. Though going back to school scan be tough, deep down I know I have to do it and there’s no way out. But, like everyone else, I also go out and shop for new things. Sometimes, I buy things that I might already have, because new things and shopping will help me come out of hibernation and get back on track.

I was hunting for the perfect bag and I was never able to settle with one, because it was either costly or not trendy. I did not want something that’s ordinary, or what everyone else will have. I wanted something trendy, yet durable and one that will withstand my trysts! Finally, I found Caribee Lotus School Bag. It was black and priced only at £14.95.

Though the Lotus School Bag, also called Small Rucksack looks simple, it is durable and great for daily use. It has two compartments, one large enough to hold an A4 size folder and another smaller one. The smaller one looks more like a pocket and handy for keeping things that I might need often. The bag is waterproof and comes with a rain cover right over the zip of the main compartment, stopping droplets on its way.

Other attractive features include:

  • Action back harness system
  • Durable design
  • Bottle holders
  • Compact, yet large enough to hold A4 folder
  • Dimensions: 26L/42 x 28 x 22cm

Besides, I liked that it had two zippers, making it possible to lock should I need it. Also, it has two straps that are adjustable and a soft handle. This way, if I wanted to wear it casually like a sling bag, or for rough days use both straps, or if I just wanted to carry it by the handle, it is still possible(like I said, it is durable). The straps are padded, so feels comfortable on my shoulders, even when it is heavy. Though I chose black to suit all colors and attire, there’s a navy one too, or a combat one for the boys.  This is just what I wanted, so I picked it right away and got going with my packing work.

There is a wide range of different bags and luggage to choose from, by planning ahead you’ll be best prepared for all eventualities on your travels.

Your list will help determine the size and functionality of the luggage you will need for your trip. There are all kinds of travellers, here are some helpful tips on bag features for the most common amongst us.

The Adventure Seeker

Exploring the great outdoors, such as hiking and camping most certainly calls for durable lightweight backpacks. These activities can be strenuous and physically demanding, so lightweight backpacks can help reduce a heavy load while providing easy access to equipment, food and water.

If you’re planning a day trip, the lightweight Caribee Trail Daypack is a very popular choice  as it can carry up to 30L and has a super comfortable bio-form harness system. This system provides a utility hip belt and lumbar support making it incredibly comfortable to carry. It’s been designed for heavy duty and is hydration compatible with a concealable rain cover and cycling light loop.

For the ultra-light overnighter that is deemed equipped for comfort and adventure, consider the Jansport Talus Hiking Daypack. The padded straps and hipbelt are ventilated to keep you cool on your treks, while the compression straps keep the load from injuring your back. It has a Bungee compression system which enables you to stow a jacket or other goods externally so you can make the most of the main compartment.

If you’re seeking a performance alpine trekking rucksack, you should check out the Caribee Nevis. One of the lightest alpine backpacks on the market, it’s available in 40 & 65L and is a fully featured trekking pack made from nylon and Cordura materials. The XT harness system allows easy adjustment for the perfect fit while the internal contoured aluminium stays and back support provides ultimate comfort.

The Weekend Break

Those who enjoy regular weekend breaks need travel bags that are comfortable and versatile. There are a lot of styles and designs to choose from when packing for sightseeing on a city break or visiting a country retreat for the weekend. You should look for quality luggage that offers the right amount of storage space and won’t weigh you down.

Perhaps you’re flying away for a weekend break to a trendy city and want to stand out from the crowd? Consider treating yourself to a stylish carry-on piece of luggage by new brand SUITSUIT. These hard shell trolley cases fit in the aircraft cabin as hand luggage on all airlines including budget flights. With some really funky and colourful designs to choose from, you will be sure to stand out in style.

Sandstorm’s  fantastic range of canvas and leather overnight bags, are perfect for stylish city breaks or weekends in the country. When you’re sightseeing, it’s often easier to pack your essentials into a lightweight bag with lots of separate compartments for valuable items, such as cameras, money, travel guides and water. The heavy duty Ducti Musette Deployment bag has more than enough space to carry everything you need and is made for men and women. It’s also been recommended by the Independent for its stylish design and practical feature’s.

The Backpacker

Got the travel bug or planning a trip of a lifetime? Investing in a high quality durable travel pack can make all the difference to your overall experience. Take into consideration your destinations and mode of transport. Your travel pack is likely to endure different climates, heavy handling, airports, trains and buses. It also needs to be the right size for your height and weight for ease of use and mobility.

Backpacks with wheels have many practical advantages. Here are a few things you might want to consider when deciding which travel pack to buy.

  • Wheeled Backpacks have a very rigid back as the handles go the length of the backpack when pushed in, which enables the whole front of the backpack to be hinged on clips as with the Sky Master Series and Fast Track Series.
  • The zips open all the way round like a suitcase. Those who have travelled with a top load only backpack will realise just how useful this feature is. There’s nothing worse than having to empty the entire contents of your pack to get at a piece of equipment you packed at the bottom of your top loader rucksack.
  • The wheels also mean that transporting the backpack is a great deal easier than normal. It considerably reduces the strain on your upper body when you can simply wheel it around town! For those backpackers that like to go off the beaten track then the harness system is well padded and comfortable and gives good support.

The Caribee Fast Track Wheeled Rucksacks have been rigorously tested to provide the best all-in-one luggage solution. The high quality luggage is versatile, lightweight, spacious and designed with adventure in mind. Available in two sizes (75 & 85L), both with detachable day sacks, maximised packing space with internal toiletry pouch, adjustable harness system and a super lightweight aluminium trolley frame to have you speeding through the airport terminals.

Caribee Sky Master Series also gives you the choice to carry or wheel your luggage around the world. The 70 & 80L models are made from recycled polyester materials, light in weight and feature a bio-form concealable harness system. These stylish travel packs also feature a zip off detachable day pack that’s great for carry-on luggage or day trips once you reach your destination.

However, if you plan to do a lot of trekking where you will be carrying the pack most of the time then forget the wheeled backpacks and choose a good quality travel pack / rucksack instead.

For example the Caribee Akula is a great quality fully featured most versatile, travel pack with a detachable day pack for shorter trips.  Available in both 65 and 75 litre sizes the Akula is fully adjustable so you can get the perfect fit.

Top of the range is the Grand Air travel pack. Available in two sizes the Grand Air is rugged and ready to roll with you when you’re going the distance.

Travel Backpack – Travelling Made Easier with a Good Backpack

One of the most important things that an adventurer shouldn’t forget is a travel backpack. So when you write your checklist for your next trip, backpack should be the first on that list.

Why do you you need one?

  • A backpack keeps all your items for your adventure in one place. No small pouches or bags.
  • When you use other kinds of bags, you’ll either have to bring it with one hand or place it on one shoulder. This could eventually give you an annoying back or arm pain. But when you use a backpack, the weight of your things will be well-balanced on both of your shoulders.
  • It has one large compartment where you can place your clothes and other big sized stuff, and there are multiple small pockets where you can place your smaller accessories.
  • A quality backpack makes traveling easier because it’s easy to carry around. You can still use both hands when you need to.
  • A travel backpack is made up of lightweight materials so you can easily run if you have to. Let’s face it, from time to time you will have to encounter some bad weather conditions. In case it started raining while you’re walking, it’s not easy to run when you’re carrying a huge luggage bag.
  • It’s also a great kind of bag to use in case you’ll have to go upstairs, hike to the mountain or just walk up an elevated place.

There are so many advantages when you use a backpack instead of a huge luggage bag or a suitcase pack. Everyone who loves to travel admits that they are more comfortable in bringing backpacks with them rather than handbags. If you want to take your travelling seriously, then you must invest on a real quality backpack that you can use for many years. And, even if you don’t, you can always use backpack at any occasion such as visiting your parents or other friends.

Another good thing about a backpack is that you can simply wear it without having to worry if the backpack’s color blends well with your outfit or if it looks good on you. No matter how you look or what you wear, any kind of backpack can go with any kind of outfit. And to top it all, a travel backpack is much cheaper than any other types of travelling bags. Choosing the Right Hiking Rucksack, Backpack or Daypack

Whether you’re taking a 1 month holiday to Mexico or taking a year off to explore Europe or Asia, you’re going to need the right hiking rucksack. But how do you know which one is right for your needs? Here we’re going to go over how you can choose the right size, shape and type of rucksack to get the job done. Let’s get started!

Know Your Sizes

I don’t care what anyone says, size is the determining factor for any rucksack you buy. Rucksacks, Backpacks and Daypacks are measured a little strangely, capacity is measured in litters. One of the best rucksacks is the Caribee Trail Daypack.

Small Daypacks:

Daypacks are pretty small rucksacks with enough room for snacks and some clothing. If you’re literally taking a daytrip, they’ll work for you and your gear. These generally range between 10L to 35L in capacity; visualize that many fizzy drink bottles in a bag and you know how much room you have! Like mentioned above, the Caribee Trail Daypack falls into this category.

Medium Range Rucksacks:

There are two types of packs that will run in this range – Alpine hiking rucksacks and Lightweight Backpack packs. Alpine packs are the smaller of the two, and are good for weekend to week long trips. These will be softer but will end up a little ragged if you pack too much into them. They’ll go from 35L to 75L, giving you plenty of room to take everything you need on the road with you.

Large Range Rucksacks:

Trail rucksacks, expedition and travel packs give you a big space to take everything you need with you, but with a heavy-duty durable frame that will make you a more respectable traveler. These will range from 75L and above 100L; they can be compared more to luggage on a frame that you can carry on your back or on the top of your car. You’ll know that you’re dealing with a large range hiking rucksack when you can feel the frame that bares a larger load.

Get the Right Fit

Getting the right fit for your Hiking rucksack is important; if you can try it out before you buy it you’ll know if you can carry it day in, day out. You’ll want shoulder straps that are broad, but not so broad they dig into your arms. If you’re slight in stature, you don’t want to get a lightweight backpack that will go from the top of your head to the backs of your knees. The Caribee Trail Daypack fits all these, but be sure to explore your options.

If you can’t try out the rucksack in person, check out reviews; has a short or tall person used this with or without problems? Is the lightweight backpack durable, or does it fall apart if the weight’s not distributed evenly? Can you set it on the ground or use it as a pillow/seat if need be? See if it has a hip belt to keep the weight distributed evenly. The more straps the better the balance will be; but no matter what, you want to make sure you get the right size rucksack and the right fit.

The Gadget Show selected the Caribee Trail Lightweight Backpack as it’s top choice for a lightweight rucksack for hiking and general use. The right rucksack will make your next holiday or lightweight backpacking adventure more fun, easier and a lot more comfortable.
